## Error Codes Reference

| Error Code | HTTP Status | Description |
| :--- | :--- | :--- |
| `INVALID_FORMAT` | 400 | The provided document identifier does not conform to official regex formatting. |
| `MISSING_CONSENT` | 400 | Explicit user consent is mandatory for legal Indian identity checks. |
| `VERIFICATION_FAILED` | 422 | Upstream database confirmed the record is invalid, inactive, or mismatched. |
| `PROVIDER_UNAVAILABLE`| 503 | Live verification provider timed out or is temporarily offline. Retry with backoff. |

## Deterministic Sandbox Test Matrix

When using `as_test_...` API keys, requests do not contact live government APIs. You can simulate all possible scenarios using deterministic IDs:

### PAN Card

- `ABCDE1234F`: **Verified** (Individual, "Aarav Sharma")
- `XYZPE9999K`: **Verified** (Company, "Priya Enterprises")
- `ABCDE0000F`: **Rejected** (Record marked invalid/inactive)
- `ERR001234F`: **Failed** (Simulates upstream provider 503 error)

### Driving Licence

- `DL-1420110012345`: **Verified** ("Rajesh Kumar", valid until 2031)
- `DL-0000000000000`: **Rejected** (Licence suspended / not found)
- `ERR-142011001234`: **Failed** (Simulates Sarathi timeout)

### Vehicle RC

- `MH12AB1234`: **Verified** (Hyundai Creta, "Soma Enterprises")
- `DL01AB0000`: **Rejected** (Registration blacklisted / cancelled)
- `ERR12AB1234`: **Failed** (Simulates Vahan connection error)
